Theme Notes Series 290: Let’s Pretend Play School’s series ‘Let’s pretend’ aims to nurture the imagination, creativity and a sense of wonder. Imaginative play not only provides enjoyment to young children, but it also helps them understand the real world and their place in it. It can also help them learn about experiences and people they may not directly come into contact with. Language, social and cognitive ability are also developed through imaginative play. A strong sense of imagination and creativity assists children become confident problem solvers. Look in mirror and pull a happy, sad, surprised and angry look. Make some happy face biscuits with icing and some round biscuits. Draw a shape picture and tell a story. Pretend one of the circles is a steering wheel and go for a drive. Pretend one of the triangles is a hat to wear. Put a square and triangle together and pretend to be a house. Put an oval, circle and triangle shape together to make an aeroplane. Slide the other shapes together to make a shape sculpture. MAKE AND DO How to Make a Box Castle You will need: - 1 large box - 4 smaller boxes - 4 buckets Place a large box in the centre as the main wall of castle. Place the smaller boxes on top of the larger box as towers. Put bucket turrets on each tower. The box castle is now complete to play with.
