Sam has issues with protege and girlfriend Kali's lyrical skills, so he asks Hank to assist. In an effort to write sincere songs, Hank asks Kali what it was like to move to L.A., resulting in Hank flashing back to his own experience arriving in the city with Karen. The past and present then intersect when a worried Karen shows up on Hank's doorstep.
