Theme Notes Series 290: Let’s Pretend Play School’s series ‘Let’s pretend’ aims to nurture the imagination, creativity and a sense of wonder. Imaginative play not only provides enjoyment to young children, but it also helps them understand the real world and their place in it. It can also help them learn about experiences and people they may not directly come into contact with. Language, social and cognitive ability are also developed through imaginative play. A strong sense of imagination and creativity assists children become confident problem solvers. Get a cardboard box counter. Set up a selection of things to wear on your head and various kinds of tails. Selection may include a woolly horse tail, big ears, point paper nose, a spiky dragon tail and a large straw hat. MAKE AND DO How to Make a Rainy Day Picture You will need: - Crayons - Spoon - Paint - Paper Colour a piece of paper all over using crayons. Cover with paint in one colour. Scratch out a rainy day painting by using the spoon handle. Try scratching out raindrops and an umbrella. Hang to dry. MAKE AND DO How to Make a Rocket Sandwich You will need: - Bread board - Two slices of bread - Yellow capsicum - Hummus - Avocado - Carrot slices - Cherry tomatoes - Plastic knife - Pea sprouts  Cut bread in rocket shape with two triangle shaped pieces as rocket fins. Spread hummus onto the bread, that is the main part of rocket, and add avocado stripes. Add two carrot strips for rocket boosters on the bottom of the rocket. Add cherry tomato windows and sprouts for the blast off smoke.
