With the upcoming anniversary of his Dad's unsolved murder, DC Ben Cooper wrestles with his inability to crack the case as he and DC Diane Fry are called in to investigate the disappearance of a teenager girl, Laura Kirkham.They're sent to the wealthy family estate where Laura's parents Dominic and Charlotte are adamant that their ex-gardener Lee Bateman is to blame for the departure of their cherished daughter. But after Laura's body is found in the woods nearby to the Kirkham Estate, suspicion surrounds the family and their disgruntled employees.After the removal of an ancient plaque stone fuels local rumours surrounding a mysterious creature known as the ‘Black Dog', the hit-and-run death of a key suspect leaves Cooper and Fry with a tangled web of lies to solve. As Ben confronts his own past alongside his troubled mother Isobel, Fry's fears grow as a stalker from her past in Leeds makes it clear that she's no longer safe in Edendale.
