Episode 1

In 1985, young Kent mother Joan O'Connell is trapped in a catastrophic relationship with criminal Gary Darvil, but she flees after he brings danger to their door and takes drastic action to keep her six-year-old daughter Kelly safe. Attempting to build a new life, Joan begins working in her sister's salon and gets a job at a jewellery store, where one impetuous action then changes her life.
